John Day walleye fishing is good in several places below the dam. the deadline is a very popular spot but local fishing guides know this area and tend to do better because they know exactly where to fish.  If you are not familiar with the area it may be a little tougher for you to catch walleye here because there are lots of snags and the Kurds are not predictable. Many feel that there are just too many surprises under the water here so before they take a walleye fishing trip on their own they will usually spend a day with a qualified knowledgeable local area Oregon walleye fishing guide.

Preacher's Eddy is down river from the deadline and has been a very popular spot especially for larger fish. this stretch of the river varies greatly in depth from 10 to 35 feet deep in spots.  Those are great depths for walleye.  When trolling downstream it is important to keep changing the depth you are fishing hat to make sure your walleye fishing baits. You will catch some huge walleye in this area but more often than not you will find the smaller ones here.

springtime is considered by many to be the best time to walleye fishing on the Columbia River. some of the local Indian fishermen have placed buoys and these are good areas to fish because they're usually set in depths that are good for walleye fishing.
